After considerable research the SDA now
offers training modules run on a regular basis, covering all aspects
of Saw and Tool grinding both theoretical and practical, these are
open to both members and non members, and are accredited by the SDA
The SDA are now taking bookings for courses to be run over the next
twelve months, these include:
Health and Safety and Material Science
TCT and Circular Wood Saws
Router Cutters
Profile Knives/Profile Blocks/Loose Knives
Wide Bandsaws
Engineering Tool and Cutter Grinding
Further courses in the course of preparation include:
Narrow Bandaws
Segmental Sawblades
HSS Circular Sawblades
Machine Guillotine Knives
PCD Tooling
All course are to be offered eventually at two levels, Workshop
Technician, and at a higher advanced level, and are run between a
1 to 3 day period – in order to minimise disruption at the
delegate’s workplace.
Distance learning will be available shortly by video/correspondence
for students unable to attend due to distance or time factor, and
is an ideal opportunity for overseas students
The SDA is also to publish technical books based on the courses
offered, and the first these “The Cutter Grinders Handbook” a
practical guide to the selection grinding and setting of planning
and profiling cutters and cutterheads for woodworking machines, and
now joined by the Circular Saws book using the same format. These
will be followed shortly by Router Cutters
